Burkinabe detained by Ghana police for entering Catholic Church with pistol

With the treat of terrorism on the rise, the populace of Ghana are now on high alert for any suspicious actions. Ghana Police have arrested a Burkina Faso national with loaded pistol in a catholic church in the Upper West Region.

“Although the pistol was concealed, a member of the church seated behind him saw part of it and alerted the church leaders” DCOP Buah-Appiah revealed in an interview with Joy Fm.

The suspect, when questioned by the police could not give any concrete reason for carrying the weapon. However, he told the authorities that he was a farmer and has been in Ghana for only six weeks and that last Sunday, 2nd June, 2019 was his first time in church.

The man in question has been detained at the District Police Headquarters at Jirapa, Upper West Region for further questioning.

Several security experts have warned that the attacks on churches in Burkina Faso should be carefully monitored in case of any spill over into Ghana.
